Is electric the future of motorcycle industry?
Snapshot: According to a research, about 55 million plug in 2 wheeler will be sold within next decade from 2014-2023.
When Harley Davidson showcased their 'Project Liverwire' somewhere around June this year, it shocked many traditional automotive industrialist, but this news also came as a sign of relief for 2w electric motorcycling industry as none of the big manufacturer dared to enter this genre in the past. 2w electric industry was although doing fairly good with number of e- scooter launches around the globe as well as India, but hybrid or electric motorcycles were not too easily accepted.
Navigant Research, a firm based out in U.S came out with a good news for the industry. According to their research, about 55 million plug in 2 wheeler will be sold within next decade from 2014-2023. That is a commendable number by any standards. This will definitely bring some ray of hope for both existing manufacturers as well as new inventors.
"Although high component costs and sluggish demand currently hamper the sales of electric two-wheel vehicles today, this market is poised for growth as consumer markets continue to expand and new high-profile competitors such as Harley Davidson enter the market," says John Gartner, research director with Navigant Research.
We hope that more and more electric 2w comes out rolling making our environment a better place for living!
