Marquez to start from pole again
Snapshot: This is the new record for Marquez as he finished the race 0.617sec quicker than his previously held record for the 2013 season.
The Saturdays qualifier in Aragon, Spain, saw Marq Marquez from the Honda Repsol, giving his best of the season and start the pole again after the last race disappointment. A new pole position record gave Marc Marquez his 11th pole in 14 races this season, completing the qualifier in mere 1.14.187. This is the new record for Marquez as he finished the race 0.617sec quicker than his previously held record for the 2013 season.
The Gran Premio Movistar de Aragon saw the other Honda Repsol rider coming next to Marc Marquez. Dani Pedrosa took the second position on the grid, completing race in 1.47.549, followed by Andrea Iannone from the Pramac Racing achieving the front row position finishing the race in third place on the grid.
The second row on the grid will see Pol Espargao from the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 finishing the qualifier at the 4th position followed by Cal Crutchlow from the Ducati Team at 5th position and the Doctor, Valentino Rossi from the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team finishing in 6th position.
Marquez leads the championship standings by a healthy margin of 74 points, but saw one of the worst race of his season in Italy two weeks ago as an early crash saw him finish 15th. "Dani here has been always really fast here," said Marquez. Adding to this, he said "I have felt so good during the whole weekend and when I saw P2 on the board I knew I had to push a little bit more and it was enough for the pole."
Valentino Rossi, the winner on the home turf last race, commented, “It was difficult yesterday and also today as we are suffering from a lack of grip. It’s difficult to ride the bike at the limit as after some laps it starts to slide a lot." He also said "The big question mark is the front tyre, we can use medium or hard. They are very similar so we have to see what the track temperature will be.”
We have to wait till Sunday to know if Marc really increases his margin, to be unbeatable this season, or will Iannone will give his season best. Watch this space for further updates.
