If there is one thing that the Ciaz does single-handedly well, it is impress back seat occupants for sheer space and comfort. Recently, it got an extra point for impressing my parents, both in their sixties. They simply loved the amount of legroom on offer for themselves and also the fact that the rear doors open nice and wide, which meant stepping in and out of the car was a breeze. They also appreciated that the AC vent at the back had a strong throw of air unlike other rivals where the vents only look like a gimmick.
Recently, I also appreciated the Ciaz’s big and roomy boot. While in my video reviews I keep joking how good the boot is to carry my mother-in-law’s luggage, in real life, I appreciated it when we were shifting our office recently. There was plenty of kit which needed to be moved to a new location and the Ciaz just gobbled up the stuff without any fuss. It’s wide opening aperture means that even if you have a big and heavy bag or box to heave in, it should not be an issue in the least.
On the driving front things have been positive. The ‘SHVS’ hybrid system means that fuel economy is consistently good. Our petrol-powered car has been delivering figures in excess of 13kpl on a regular basis in the city. On the highway I am sure this should improve by atleast 20-30 percent. Other team members have appreciated the brilliant AC, which cools the cabin very quickly. Some have even appreciated the gauges and the multiple displays in them, especially the one which shows the ‘SHVS’ system in operation. Maruti engineers have also done a great job with the gear ratios. The car never seems to be in the wrong gear and never feels like it needs extra power either, so kudos to the engineering team at Maruti for delivering the perfect amount of power on the Ciaz.
What I personally appreciate though is the cabin quality. The car with its faux wood finish and the light beige theme inside is an abode of peace from the maddening traffic outside. The light shades work very well for Indian summers since they don’t attract as much heat as a darker shade would. Also, the infotainment system is easier to operate than that of other rivals. All the menus, submenus are clearly marked and the fonts look nice and legible too even on a bright sunny afternoon. So overall, the cabin is a very nice place to be in. In fact, with the room in the back seat, the Ciaz can compete with many a car in a segment or two higher, it is that good.
Overall, with its long list of talents, the Ciaz continues to impress. If you are in the market for a midsize sedan then I would certainly recommend the Ciaz to be on your shortlist. With its long list of talents, it is a charmer for sure and you will enjoy every minute with it, like I certainly have.
