Petrol with additives to cost less

Snapshot: Premium petrol will cost less if government's proposal to reduce the excise duty on it gets implemented

There is a good news for the 'finicky riders' out there. The government in its annual budget has decided to slash the prices of the 'branded fuels'. These fuels that were enriched by additives used to attract higher duties than the normal petrol resulting in pathetic sales for these varieties of petrol. Government reduced the Excise Duty on branded fuels from Rs 7.50 to Rs 2.35 per litre. With this reduction in the excise duty, both the fuels should cost almost similar. For example, Bharat Petroleum's Speed costs Rs 83.03 in Delhi whereas the price of the normal petrol is Rs 73.55 per litre.
