The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge Powered by Nissan is organised by the Automobile and Touring Club of United Arab Emirates (ATCUAE), and is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region.
The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is supported by a high-profile line-up of sponsors and supporters that includes Nissan, Yas Marina Circuit, Al Gharbia, ADNOC, Rotana - Yas Island, Al Ain Water, Abu Dhabi Aviation, National Ambulance and TAG Heuer. Final stage got cancelled because of a sand storm that interrupted the race and Marc Coma was declared as the winner of Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge 2015.
While previous Desert Challenges have seen motorbike, quad-bike, four wheel and truck competitors battle cross-emirate stages, the event in recent years has gradually migrated towards a majority routing through Abu Dhabi's majestic desert areas. During the Challenge, competitors have to face 2 days of documentation and scrutinizing (usually on a Friday and Saturday), before a Super Special Stage (on a Sunday) which decides the starting order. Competitors then brave the Liwa Desert and the Moreeb area of the Empty Quarter for 5 days.
