Suzuki working on a new 250cc motorcycle for Indian market
Snapshot: Suzuki to re-enter 250cc segment with an all new motorcycle
Suzuki recently launched the all new fully-faired motorcycle the Suzuki Gixxer SF that too at a very competitive price, and last year was marked as a successful year for Suzuki India with the launch of naked Gixxer 150. If the faired Gixxer comes out with a bigger cc engine it might just be the best bike in this segment. Though Suzuki’s last 250cc motorcycle “Inazuma” wasn’t able to do well in the Indian market even after a massive price reduction of INR 1 lakhs. Suzuki has started working on another quarter litre motorcycle that would go head to head against KTM,Bajaj,Honda and Kawasaki’s.
The quarter litre segment in Indian market is on fire as even Yamaha is planning to launch their R3 or R25 in near future. Apart from the fully faired motorcycle Suzuki might also launch the naked version of the same, both sharing the same engine. These motorcycles will take quite some time to enter production and on the sidelines of the Gixxer SF launch, Suzuki confirmed that its immediate focus will be on 150cc and above segments. Suzuki will also be launching bigger guns like GSX-S1000 and S1000F later this year. Both of these motorcycles share a same 999 cc engine. It is a 4-stroke, liquid cooled, DOHC, in-line four motor that churns out 144 bhp and 105 Nm of torque. It is the same engine that was used in GSX-R1000 (2005-2008) but tuned for the streets. KYB inverted front forks are common in both of these machines and a single, link-type monoshock at the rear.
