Things that makes the Royal Enfield Himalayan an interesting motorcycle

This is not the first time that the Chennai based auto maker, Royal Enfield, is coming up with something that doesn’t follows the Indian trends. Previously the company launched the Continental GT Café Racer that being a decent product didn’t quite catch the buyers’ interest. Then apart from introducing new colours to the old rugged Enfields’, company also announced that Royal Enfield will be exploring the whole 250cc to 750cc segment in the time to come with the launch of a new product every year slated for next 4 years down the line. 

A lot of motorcycle giants from around the world came hurdling in the Indian motorcycling scene and with it came new options for us. But what’s in it for adventure heads who can’t afford a Tiger or a Versys? This is exactly where the Royal Enfield Himalayan comes in. No matter how premium brands laid their cards out, but they still left the room empty for a majority of Indian population who in real life can’t afford to spend Rs 8 Lakh to buy an adventure bike.

The company invested a fortune of resources in the development of the Himalayan. A bunch of prototypes were thrashed and got tested extensively on every terrain possible. The Himalayan video series uploaded by Royal Enfield gave a slight idea how serious was this machine’s development life. Well it’s known to all, the bike has been co-developed with Harris Performance, which is now a venture of Royal Enfield. From tracks to Himalayas, Royal Enfield left no stone unturned to make sure that all the pieces fit exactly at the right places and before going into the final production version the bike should withstand the toughest of conditions a bike has to see when exploring the mighty Himalayas.

How capable is this machine? Can it really go off-road?

Yes it is the most capable Royal Enfield ever made and yes it is really good at going off-road!

The combination of its suspension set-up with its frame, handle-bar position, ergonomics and over-all weight, will surely allow it confidently glide on all the slushy surfaces unlike any other Royal Enfield made before it.

Things you should note about it-

·         Its 411cc LS4 Single-cylinder, air-cooled, 4 Stroke, SOHC engine is a newly built unit. Its counter balancer makes it a smooth engine when compared to the ones seen before. The engine delivers 24.5bhp of maximum power at 6,500 rpm while 32Nm of peak torque comes at 4,500 rpm.

·         The LS stands for ‘Long-Stroke’ which is the signature mark of Royal Enfield.  

·         It is the first ever motorcycle from Royal Enfield to get a rear mono-shock suspension.

·         From temperature to compass, its meter gauge shows all the necessary information in case you are on roads less travelled.

·         Its 220mm of ground clearance makes it an invincible tool when trundling over bad road conditions.

·         Its frame is designed to hold jerry cans upfront and panniers at the rear end. That means it’s ready for some serious butt-kicking adventure and you don’t need to fit anything aftermarket. Royal Enfield offers optional light-weight Aluminium and bag panniers, whatever suits you the best.

·         The stock upswept silencer can upgraded to a louder after-market carbon black exhaust offered by Royal Enfield only.
