Yamaha India launches YZF-R3 at Rs 3.25 lakh

Chasing the much needed demand from the entry level sportbike segment, Yamaha has finally launched the much awaited YZF-R3 at a price of Rs 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The bike comes with a high revving 321cc, liquid cooled, twin cylinder engine that puts out 41bhp of maximum power and a peak torque figure of 29.6Nm. The new YZF-R3 will be available in two exciting colours, Racing Blue and Black Lightning, across select Yamaha dealerships for now, and then all dealers eventually. Deliveries begin from the 20th August 2015.
The launch took place at the Buddh International Circuit in the presence of bollywood actor and motorcycle enthusiast, John Abraham followed by a video note by the royalty himself, Valentino Rossi. Yamaha claims that although they are late, they carefully observed the segment develop and have released the best product. The company went back to basics for the R3, their racing pedigree, to develop an easy to handle and fun motorcycle.
The YZF-R3 has ditched the acclaimed Deltabox frame and went for a conventional Diamond frame in order to keep the weight low. The sharp handling characteristics are matched with apt suspension setup to deal with both street or track. The ride is smooth with a softer rear shock. The chassis utilises the best out of the soft MRF tyres. Another brilliant novelty is the instrumentation which has great visibility and comes with a shift light urging the rider to shift at the correct time.
Commenting on the launch, Roy Kurian, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India stated, “The YZF-R3 is a model that takes the R-Series technology and know-how Yamaha has accumulated since the original YZF-R1 and brings the world of the “YZF” lineup to the 320cc displacement class. It inherits the high level of riding performance and styling DNA worthy of an R-Series model while also being easy to handle in daily use. Currently the Supersports segment (250cc to 600cc) is doing around 1000 bikes a month and our plan is to attain a 20% market share in the segment.”
