Yamaha still to decide what to Launch - the R25 or R3 in India!

Snapshot: Will they, Wont They, continues in the hearts of the Indian motorcyclists, and Yamaha is still to decide among the R25 and the R3!!!

The Yamaha conundrum is still some time away to get a final decision! Ever since the brilliant and widely appreciated YZF-R25 and Yzf-R3 came into being, there has been a lot of talk around which suits the Indian market better, the R25 or the R3. With sighting of both the bikes on Indian roads recently, it became evident that Yamaha is working towards finding the solution for this confusion, however, it has not come to any stable decision as of now, however, they have been more than happy to concentrate on the commuter and the rapidly growing scooter segment with the launch of their Saluto and the Fascino, respectively.

Indianautosblog is reporting that, at the launch of the Saluto last month, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor India Sales Ltd., Mr. Masaki Asanohad told them when asked about the R325/R3 that the decision and introduction of the quarter liter segment bike (R25 and/or R3) depends on the "Customer needs in India" and after the R15, they are considering segments above it, either through the route of CBU or might be CKD or something.

However, we reckon, R3 would be a better option for Yamaha if they decide to go for either the CBU or the CKD route, as it will enable them to price the R3 in a segment above the current crop of single cylinder quarter liter bikes like the KTM RC390/RC200 , Honda CBR250R and its upcoming upgrade, the CBR300R and the Bajaj entry to the segment, the RS200 and the upcoming RS400, and below the hugely awesome but steeply priced Ninja 300, a bike that the R3 has been designed to beat.

The R3 has a parallel twin engine producing 42Ps from its 321cc power-plant that also produces a decent 29.6Nm of torque, while its younger sibling is a 249cc parallel twin producing 36Ps and 22.1Nm torque. Both bikes weigh a light 166kg and 169kg, the R3 being the heavier among the two, while both bikes enjoy a super smooth 6-speed tranny.
