KTM RC 200 Overview

The 200 Duke was a hit when it was launched back in 2012. Come 2014 and it went through a cloning chamber and then was covered by a wig. Things look different?Yes. But underneath, the new plastic bodywork, twin projector headlamps, low clip-on handle bars and a raked-up rear subframe, there are many components that remain unchanged, but tinkered around the give a whole different experience. It's a perfect entry-level super-sport motorcycle for a novice rider, with a strikingly good balance between performance and value for money. The RC 200 keeps its promise of being the most powerful motorcycle in its segment and is surely to turn heads where you take it with its outlandish, styling.

KTM RC 200 Engine & Transmission

Powered by the same single cylinder, 200cc engine producing 25bhp and 19Nm of torque that powers the Duke 200, the RC gets its explosive punch of power low down in the power range. While the engine is great for city use with a punchy low and mid range performance, it's out on the highway where it feels inadequate. Although the aerodynamics certainly helps in making things better and giving slightly higher top end, the RC 200 is utterly quick to accelerate its way there.

KTM RC 200 Braking & Safety

KTM RC 200 barking features a mechanism that works tandemly with radial tubeless MRF tyres offering a superior grip and an efficient braking force. The suspension mechanism is composed of WP Upside-Down 43mm forks in the front as well as a WP monoshock present at the rear. The RC 200 sports tubeless tyres which do not deflate at once in the scenario of a puncture which further adds to the stability quotient. There is an Automatic Headlamp On (AHO) which illuminates the road despite of the surrounding weather and light conditions. Moreover, ABS is now part of this beauty which is a highly desired safety feature in the Indian market considering this vehicle.

KTM RC 200 Mileage

Similar to the Duke 200s combined average of 30kmpl but with certain benefits at different riding situations. In the city, due to increased weight, the RC might leave you with a slightly lower economy of 28kmpl, while on the highways aided with aerodynamics, it would result in slightly better 37kmpl compared to its Duke rival.

KTM RC 200 Performance and Handling

While the changes in suspension setup and steering angle have made the RC much sharper than its Duke sibling, it does lack an ABS module, which we assume will make its way to the RC 200 by the next year models. The RC 200 makes for a perfect motorcycle to ride to college, friend's places and quick sprints to 40-80km awaydestinations. It still retains the sprinty character of the Duke 200 while adding heck lot more agility to the way it handles corners. It will also make your look very cool among your circle of bikers by being the only one to have LED DRLs. It would be the most fun you have on a motorcycle regardless in traffic or beyond. Although, soon you will find yourself eyeing and ogling the RC 390 itching for an upgrade.
