Find upcoming Cars in India

Market Segment

Indian car market is just getting warmed up and the year has been great so far. We have seen the launch of performance hatch, Baleno RS, from Maruti Suzuki, and the luxury car maker Lexus making its debut in the market.

With the advancement in technology, safety features are expected to improve significantly in the upcoming car launches as India-specific crash norms are put in place. Mild hybrids are expected to become more common as manufacturers try to meet the CAFE norms and try to comply with emission norms.

Jeep has already made its foray into India with fully imported products. It’s expected to add more products more specific to India with greater localization. We also expect Tata to increase its share with fresh products like Nexon and other products based on the same platform. Other brands, like Mahindra and Hyundai, are expected to be much stronger and aggressive with even better product portfolio.

Expected price

Majority of sales is expected to come from entry-level hatchbacks and premium hatchbacks in the market in the price segment of Rs. 3-6 Lakh. Compact SUV and compact sedan markets are expected to do well for some more years to come.

Expected price of cars may increase marginally with crash test regulations in place. High-end cars are also expected to make headway; however, major portion of sales would still come from cars under Rs. 10 Lakh price tag.

Expected Features

Safety features like ABS, EBD and ISOFIX are expected to become more or less standard across entry-level upcoming cars once crash norms get implemented. Other than that, more cars would start offering features like cruise control, navigation, etc., which were so far seen in the premium segment only.

Premium hatches and sedans are expected to take safety to another level with greater number of airbags and embedded stability features, like ESC, Hill-assist, etc.

Expected Transmission and Mileage

While you may not see any ground-breaking developments in terms of transmission system, most entry-level cars would continue to employ AMT and manual transmissions. CVT, DCT and AT would be available as options along with manual on more expensive cars.

Manufacturers are expected to follow CAFE norms, along with better emission norms, in the coming years. This cannot be done without better fuel burning. So, the mileage of all cars is expected to improve marginally in the years to come. Mild-hybrid technologies would complement the mileage further.
