Tata Tigor

Tata has finally launched the mid-life facelift to its subcompact sedan in India. Tigor has been doing decently well in the Indian market even after stiff competition. As all the competitors refreshed their models, it was about time that Tata also updated its sedan. Tigor now comes with new modern front design and new features for the occupants. The interiors are also now updated with new upholstery and an infotainment system to brighten up the cabin. Tata has now discontinued the diesel engine and only offers the petrol engine. There are no major mechanical changes except that the engine is now BS6 compliant. Tata Tigor variants available are XE, XM, XZ and XZ+. The XM and XZ+ variants are also available with automatic transmission for people who wants to drive with convenience. Tata Tigor colours available are Pure Silver, Daytona Grey, Pearlescent White, Arizona White and Deep Red.

The Tata Tigor specifications remain unchanged with the same 1.2-litre Revotron petrol while the diesel engine is now discontinued. The petrol engines make a max power output of 86PS @ 6,000rpm and a peak torque output of 113Nm @ 3,300rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed AMT. 

The Tata Tigor mileage for the petrol manual and AMT versions are rated at 17 km/l  as per ARAI. However, in the real world conditions, you can expect around 13-14 kmpl from the sedan.

In terms of safety, Tata Tigor features dual front airbags, engine immobilizer, ABS with EBD, speed-sensitive auto door locks, corner stability control, defogger and seat belt reminder with pretensioners for driver and co-driver. The reverse parking camera with reverse parking sensors helps the driver to park the car easily. 

The Tata Tigor competes against Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo, Ford Aspire Hyundai Aura and Hyundai Xcent in the sub-four meter sedan space.

Tata has ditched the curvy design for the front and now uses a more sharp and angular design. The new grille comes with “Y” elements and a chrome belt below that continues to run through the bottom of the headlamps. The Daytime Running Lamps now sit in the fog lamp housing and the foglamps now come with a chrome surround to enhance the elegance. The headlights also come with follow me home and approach headlamps. The side profile comes with 15-inch dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels. At the back, it gets a crystal-inspired LED tail-lamps and LED high-mounted stop lamp. 

The Tata Tigor interior gets dual-tone light grey and slate interior and the fabric seat also come with tri arrow inserts that lighten up the cabin and open up a sense of airiness. The elegance of the cabin is enhanced with piano black inserts around the touchscreen infotainment system and chrome finish around AC Vents. The Tata Tigor gets a new generation of 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system sourced from Harman, which is supported by Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay. The touchscreen infotainment system is connected to a 4 speaker and 4 tweeter sound system sourced from Harman. Convenience features offered by Tata are push-button start/stop, fully automatic climate control, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, height-adjustable driver seat and a smart key for keyless entry. All the occupants also get power windows, cooled glove box and a rear armrest. The ORVMs come with electrically folding, adjustable and welcome function. The main highlight of the cabin beside the new touchscreen infotainment system is the all-new digital instrument cluster for the driver. The instrument cluster shows various important information to the driver such as Average fuel efficiency, Distance to Empty, Average fuel economy, Door open reminder and much more. The instrument cluster will also warn the driver and show a reminder if he forgets his key in the car. The steering wheel also offers capacitive buttons to control the infotainment system.

There are no mechanical changes have been made to the suspension of the car. Which means that the ride quality of the Tigor stays compliant over the bad patches of the road for the most part. The Tigor is not meant to drive hard, it is best suited for daily commutes where it excels.

With the facelift launched, the Tigor looks fresh and comes with new features which make it even more attractive. Tigor is aimed towards those who are looking for a compact sedan that is easy to drive and manoeuvre for daily city duties.
